ENSI service
ENSI is a completely new bidirectional navigation service which will be used to modernise the vessel traffic service and to facilitate bridge operations.
In practice, this means that:
-
Ships send their route plans through the Internet to the GOFREP vessel traffic service before they leave port.
-
The vessel traffic service checks the route and sends up-to-date and route-specific information on weather, ice, traffic, the port of destination and any disturbances. It is also possible to use and order various support services.
-
Vessel traffic controllers supervise the ship’s actual route and intervene in any deviations from the plan, in accordance with an agreed-upon procedure. They also inform the ship of unexpected risk factors.
-
Initially, the service will be implemented on oil tankers navigating in the Gulf of Finland, and it can be extended to cover all maritime traffic. Unleashing the full potential of ENSI requires that it is used on other commercial ships and passenger traffic as well.
